H3MS PTO Meeting Minutes

November 4, 2004

 Introduction - Marcia Fuher, PTO Volunteer Coordinator opened the meeting and introduced past PTO Board Members present: Megan Cross, PTO Treasurer and new Committee Chairpersons, Sarah Splattstoesser (Fundraising), School Appreciation (Krisite Midili), Student Activities Liaison (Lorna Zaback) and Family Event Chair (Michele Baum). 

October Meeting - Minutes were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report  - This was presented by Megan Cross and was approved.  Major activities this month involved the completion of the fall Spirit Clothing Sale, and the sale of popular BOO-Grams. 

BOO-Grams - Kathy Williamson presented a summary of the highly popular project.  Approximately 1,800 ‘Grams were sold, with approximately 100 extras given to school staff and PTO Volunteers.  The project will bring in approximately $400 in profit .  A big Thank You goes out to all who helped make this project such a huge success! 

Poinsettia Fund RaiserOngoing sale has an order deadline on Monday, November 15th.  Plants will be distributed Monday and Tuesday, Nov 22nd & 23rd during conference week.  Beautiful 8-inch plants are $10 each and come in Red, White and Pink varieties.  Contact Sarah Splattstoesser with your orders at splatts75@charter.net .

Prize Winner - Liz Jones was the winner of the monthly drawing for all PTO and school volunteers – a Starbuck’s mug and gift certificate.  Remember there is a drawing each month at our PTO meeting!  Your name will be entered if you attend a PTO meeting, help with a PTO activity, or help at the school.  NEXT MEETING Thursday, December 9th from    6 – 7 PM in the School Library.

 

OLD BUSINESS

SAVE Program Update - Megan Cross presented information from Pedro Andrade regarding the SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) program at the school.  PTO earmarked $500 in support of the program in 2004.

PTO Information NotebooksThese wiil be available in the main office for parent reference or check-out.  Current meeting notes, reports and activities are added to the resource regularly.  Principal Susan Denslow will see if PTO can have a designated location to post PTO notices and information in the school office.

 

NEW BUSINESS 

Volunteer Opportunities - Marcia Fuher presented the current Volunteer Opportunities List which was sent to all on the PTO mailing list, and posted on the school website.  She reviewed upcoming events needing volunteers, including: Poinsettia Fund Raiser, Teacher Conference Dinner (Nov 22), Bookfair (Dec 2 – 6), Student Science Fair (Feb 14-15) and office and classroom helpers.

Board Meeting - On October 28th, a meeting with some of the PTO Board Officers and several new PTO Volunteers was held to discuss direction of H3MS PTO.  Out of this meeting, the new PTO Committees and chairpersons listed above were established as well as goals for the PTO this year.

Teacher Conference Dinner - Sponsored by H3MS PTO, this will take place on Monday, Nov 22nd  betweem 4 – 7 PM. Contact Sarah Splattstoesser at Splatts75@charter.net  for additional information.

PTO Officer ElectionsElections were held for PTO Officers, with the results as follows:

President – Marcia Fuher, Vice President – Sarah Splattstoesser, Co-Secretaries -  Chris Murphy and Annette Frier, and Treasurer – Megan Cross

School Science Fair - Mrs. Smoot, 8th Grade Science Teacher, presented information on the school science fair scheduled for Feb 14 – 15th.  She requested PTO volunteer support, and possibly in purchasing display materials for students. Volunteers are need for judging, communication and overseeing the event.  Megan Cross volunteered to chair this effort for the PTO.  Please contact Megan Cross at megancross@charter.net if you are interested in finding out more about this wonderful opportunity!  All 8th grade and several 7th grade students have an opportunity to participate in the Science Fair. 

Scholastic Book Fair – Librarian Mrs. Hinkley suggested that PTO look into purchasing computer Mustang Logo mousepads needed for the computer lab and library computers (about 100 needed). Additional pads could be offered for sale as a school spirit fund raiser.  (Pads at cost run about $3.50)  Sarah Splattstoesser will look into the project

Spring Break Activity IdeaSarah Splattstoesser brought up an idea of having PTO sponsored activity during the spring break holiday for students.  Her concept is to have teams work together on designing unique jeans or on music projects during the week with final presentations at the end of the week.  Persons interested in helping with this valuable opportunity should contact Sarah at Splatts75@charter.net .
