How do I get help?

You can get help two ways: email your building Tech. Rep. or turn in a Trouble Report. Give as much detail as you know to help trouble shoot the problem.

Please do not stop the Tech. Rep. in the hall, staff lounge, or interupt their class unless it is an emergency.

For Horse Heaven Hills your Tech. Rep. is Arlis Hoglen. Contact him at hoglar@ksd.org

Trouble Reports are located with the staff mail boxes at the bottom-left. Place the completed report in your Tech. Rep's box.

It was just working but now it's not.
"Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Networks are like that."

Is everything plugged in? Don't assume so, check. Someone may have tinkered with your computer or a cord has worked loose.

  • Is your computer plugged into a power strip/surge protector? If so, insure it is turned on.
  • Monitor: Look at the front of your monitor. It should have a LED (small light) indicating your monitor has power. If the light is out press the on/off button to be sure it is on. Check the power cord and video cable at the monitor and computer.
  • CPU: Look at the front of your CPU. It also should have an LED that indicates power on. Sometimes these are hard to see so look closely. If you are not sure, press the on/off button. If the CPU powers up it was not on. If it does not power up then check the power cord in back.
  • Printer: Do the same as for CPU and Monitor.

If this doesn't solve your problem, consider what the recent history of your computer is. Have you installed software or moved it? Many PC problems can be fixed just by undoing somthing that was recently done.

When I log on, I get a message that Novel cannot connect me to the server.

"With searching comes loss
And the presence of absence:
Your 'Novel' not found."

Look at the back of your computer. This may take some doing but move the cpu (the box part that the monitor usually rests on) so that you have a good view of the back. You will notice several slots with cables coming out of them. These are the cards which connect your cpu to input/output devices. One of these will have your network cable connected to it. Near the cable you should see some small LEDs (lights). If your computer is on and receiving a signal from the server you will see the at least one light blinking randomly.

If the lights are blinking, ask others to see if the network is down. Ask other teachers first. Please do not immediately call the office or Tech Rep. Imagine 40+ teachers calling you everytime the network goes down..

If the lights are not blinking determine if you have moved your computer recently or changed software. If not, go to another computer which you can logon to and email your Building Tech. or turn in a Trouble Report.
