Applications open for 2017-18 Highly Capable Program

Want more challenging learning experiences for your elementary school student? Submit an application to place them in their school's Highly Capable (Hi-Cap) Program or a referral for the Kennewick Opportunities for the Gifted (KOG) program at Vista Elementary for the 2017-18 school year.

Elementary students who qualify for their school’s Hi-Cap program are placed together in a regular classroom at their grade level, with a teacher trained in working with highly capable students. They are offered advanced content in reading and/or math and the opportunity to work on projects and activities that drive problem-solving and creativity.

KOG is a full-time gifted program at Vista Elementary for students in the third through fifth grades and typically serves students in the top 2 percent academically across the district. Prospective students must be referred to the program.

The deadline to apply for Hi-Cap and KOG is January 20. Students currently in those programs will continue in them next year unless they are withdrawn. Fifth grade students currently in Hi-Cap or KOG will automatically be placed in Honors classes at the middle school.
