Chervenell Construction to build district's largest elementary school

Chervenell Construction Co. of Kennewick, Washington will build Kennewick School District's next elementary school located in the Clearwater Creek development in Richland.

The school board awarded the construction contract for Elementary #16 to the Kennewick-based builder after it submitted a a low bid of $20,007,378, including accepted alternates and sales tax. Chervenell Construction Co. is also building the new Westgate Elementary on Fourth Avenue.

Construction of Elementary #16 starts this week. The school will open to staff and students in August 2018.

Elementary #16 will be the district’s largest elementary school to date with 38 classrooms along with a gym, cafeteria, library, music room, flexible learning space, computer lab, two reading rooms and a playground.

The project was approved by voters as part of the February 2015 bond. It is funded with a combination of state assistance funds and a portion of a $51.1 million state grant aimed at reducing classroom sizes in kindergarten through third grade.
