Community celebrates Chinook Middle School at ribbon cutting

Students, families and staff and even school mascot Timber got in on the fun during the January 24 ribbon cutting ceremony with Kennewick school board members and local officials at the new Chinook Middle School.

Chinook is the district’s fifth middle school and its new building is located at 4891 W. 27th Ave. Staff and students started the 2016-17 school year at the former campus of Desert Hills Middle School just off 10th Avenue.

After the ribbon cutting and remarks from officials, families and community members toured the 110,400-square foot building. It has 37 classrooms, two gyms, a fitness lab, cafeteria, orchestra and band rooms and additional performance spaces, five computer labs, and a track.
