District welcomes high school exchange students

The district welcomed seven exchange students from Asia, Europe and South America this fall to Kamiakin, Kennewick and Southridge high schools, extending a long tradition of fostering connections with people around the world.

Ron Williamson, assistant superintendent of secondary education, says that while some may think the exchange students have the most to gain from immersing themselves in another culture, the district's students also stand to benefit from their time here.

"If you're in a history class and the lesson is something that happened in your homeland, you will have a unique perspective on those events that our students otherwise wouldn't hear," Williamson says.

The district works with various exchange student agencies each year to find placements for students from abroad. Families interested in hosting an exchange student should contact Lori Hagadorn at lori.hagadorn@ksd.org or (509) 222-5626.
