Edison Elementary principal announced

The Kennewick School District has selected Mia Burris Benjamin to be the next principal of Edison Elementary.

Benjamin most recently served as principal of Wahluke High School and Sentinel Tech Alternative School in the Wahluke School District. She’s also served as the principal at Wahluke’s Mattawa Elementary and as the principal at Central Elementary in the Hoquiam School District. In addition, she has experience as a bilingual coordinator, a curriculum specialist and as a supervisor music programs and gifted programs. Her teaching experience covers the elementary and college levels.

“Ms. Benjamin possesses a refined skill set and a wealth of experience,” says Greg Fancher, assistant superintendent of elementary instruction. “We expect her to be a great addition to the Edison community as well as to our whole team of elementary principals.”

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish with a minor in Teaching English as a Second Language from Western Washington University and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Seattle Pacific University.

Benjamin replaces Principal Bruce Cannard who will retire at the end of the current school year.
