Hawthorne named 2018 School of Distinction

Hawthorne Elementary School has been named a 2018 School of Distinction by the Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE). It is the only elementary school in the Tri-Cities to receive the state award.

The award recognizes Washington schools in the top five percent of improvement in English Language Arts and Math achievement or graduation rate over a five-year period.

“We are thrilled and honored to have received this award for the second year in a row. It’s especially exciting because the real winners are our students. For them, we would love to get this award every year,” says Hawthorne Elementary Principal Craig Miller. “Working together with our amazing parents and community, our staff will strive to continue providing the highest quality educational experience through advanced rigor, engaging teaching methods, and a passionate climate and culture.”

Hawthorne is one of 91 schools recognized by the CEE and its partner organizations for continuous and substantive improvement, and this marks the second year in a row that Hawthorne has earned this distinction. Only seven schools in Southeast Washington were named Schools of Distinction.
