Well-structured rubrics communicate to students the expectation for learning. They tell the student what is needed to earn a particular grade. Rubrics also provide students with descriptive feedback about their learning. By comparing their work with the set of expectations that a rubric presents, students can determine what has been achieved and what may remain to be accomplished.
