Homework
Policy
The number one question
I get at Open House and conference time usually
concerns homework. So, to save you and your child
some confusion, I would like to inform you of
my policy early in the year.
Generally, the only
homework your child will have is work not completed
in class, with the exception of cursive and
multiplication packets. On occasion, I will
assign work to be completed at home and brought
back to class. Students will almost always have
the night the homework is assigned to complete
or revise it. Longer, more complex assignments
will be given additional time.
Assignment Sheet
Each day, all assignments are written on the
assignment chart located on the chalkboard.
It is the student’s responsibility to
write down the specific assignments onto his/her
assignment sheet. This sheet will be handed
out the first school day of each month and is
to be handed in to me the last school day of
each month. It is to be signed by you at the
end of the month (please don’t sign it
early, this way I know you are aware of your
child’s academics and behavior for the
entire month). This is a great tool to keep
track of your child’s daily behavior and
assignments that should be completed.
When a child has a missing or incomplete assignment,
I will mark an “I” (Incomplete)
or an “MA” (Missing Assignment)
in the box on his/her assignment sheet next
to the appropriate assignment. If the assignment
is not turned in by the due date, I will give
the student a zero with no option of make up
in Reading, Language Arts, and Math. Zeros are
averaged in with all other grades and drastically
lower the GPA. If the late assignment is in
Social Studies or Science, the best grade a
student can receive is a check plus, but may
be turned in no later than one day after the
original due date. Of course all absences, emergencies,
and prearranged circumstances will be built
into this policy.
Exception***
Each trimester I drop each child’s lowest
grade in each subject area.
