Associate Superintendent

Welcome to the Curriculum Department

The curriculum department is responsible for overseeing the teaching and learning process in the Kennewick School District. The department supervises all state and district assessment, the selection of curricular materials, and the in-district professional training of staff.

The professionals who work in the curriculum department are dedicated to supporting teachers and staff in numerous ways. We research and help select textbooks and instructional materials, implement curriculum that is aligned with state standards, develop information systems that record, measure, and assess student learning, act as a resource for current research and best practices and programs; and coordinate professional development. We consult with educators on district, state, and federal requirements including the Washington Assessment of Student learning, Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), and No Child Left Behind.

The curriculum department is committed to district and school improvement. For more information, please contact the curriculum department at (509) 222-5060.

 Curriculum Library

Curriculum Library:

The curriculum library is located in Curriculum Department in the Kennewick School District Administration Center at 1000 W. Fourth Avenue. Parents are welcome to view all materials during normal office hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment by calling 222-5060.

Curriculum Review Periods:

Kennewick School District Policy 2311 mandates that instructional materials intended for use by five or more students at a time must be made available for the public to review for ten school/business days. Prior to public display, teams of parents and teachers analyze and evaluate the materials. Following the ten day public inspection, the departments’ curricular advisory committee will review the reports before deciding to recommend or not recommend purchasing the materials. Final decision for purchase rests with the school board.

Notifications for curriculum materials reviews are posted on this web page at right and on the district's homepage under "Events."
