Parker’s Corner
October 2008
Greetings,

We have just completed just over a month of school and are already halfway through the first quarter. I am pleased with our start and know that this is going to be a special school year at Highlands Middle School.

Our students have begun the fall Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) tests. It’s critical that they do their best on this assessment as this assessment determines where we place your student during their enhancement block. The purpose for this block is to allow students who need extra help in math and reading time to receive additional instruction as well as provide students with highly engaging projects. Every half quarter, students will be moved to another class during this block.

The weather is starting to change and the temperature is becoming colder and colder. Please remind your student to wear their jackets to school. PTO meets once a month in the school’s library. The next meeting is October 7th at 6:00 PM. I encourage parents who want to get involved to stop by and get to know other parents who are involved with many awesome projects.

Have you checked out our web site? It's the best way to keep track of what’s happening at HMS. Information is updated daily. Please let us know what you think!
