PURPOSE:
The purpose of the Kamiakin Booster Club Scholarship is to encourage high scholastic achievement among all athletes at Kamiakin High School and to promote sportsmanship, recognize athletic achievement, and to assist with the costs of higher education. This scholarship will be awarded annually to one male and one female athlete.
ELIGIBILITY:
Any graduating senior of Kamiakin High School who has participated in organized, inter-school athletics for at least two full years, at least one of which must have been during your junior or senior year at Kamiakin High School will be eligible for this scholarship. The applicant shall have been accepted (or have made application and is pending) to a recognized institution of higher learning. This scholarship is subject to NCAA rules and regulations.
DUE DATE:
All applications shall be submitted by May 1st.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Degree of participation in organized, competitive, inter-school athletics.
- Scholastic achievement.
- Participation in school and community activities.
- General citizenship and character.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The applicant shall:
- Complete the attached Kamiakin Booster Club Scholarship Application. (Neatness, grammar/spelling and punctuation will be considered in scoring. You may add extra pages.)
- Submit a copy of high school transcript.
- Submit a one page (single spaced) essay outlining plans for further education, sports or school honors earned, and how your involvement in Kamiakin athletics has helped you in your education and life. (Neatness, grammar/spelling and punctuation will be considered in scoring.)
- Submit two letters of recommendation, which specifically state the applicant’s qualifications in each of the four areas listed above in the “Selection Criteria” section. Suggestions for letters of recommendations are high school principal, counselor, teachers, minister, or employers. One letter of recommendation must be from someone other than a school district employee.
FINALISTS:
The number of candidates may be narrowed down to six finalists (three male and three female) in the event that there are more than six applications.
INTERVIEW:
Finalists may be required to attend an interview by members of the Kamiakin Booster Club. Interviews will be approximately twenty minutes in length.
PRESENTATIONS:
The award will be presented to the winning candidates at the Spring Sports Awards.
PAYMENT:
A one-time payment of $500 will be made to the registrar of the chosen school in one complete installment at the beginning of the school year. |
