There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. The places you visit and download information are not free. Web sites provide this stuff at a cost. The cost is in dollars & cents, advertising their or someone else’s product, or other, more devious means. The devious means are usually popups (irritating but usually not harmful) and Spyware (these can seriously effect system performance), viruses, and trojans.. The more you travel the internet, the more of this stuff you pick up and the slower your computer becomes. In time it can bring your system to a halt.
