
Commonly referred to as PGP’s, the personal growth project portion of the student’s grade serves two purposes. First, the personal growth project promotes individual musical growth. Secondly, it is an opportunity to reward students for musical and/or leadership development above and beyond the curricular requirements.
Projects are STUDENT generated with support from the Director. Successful completion of each project includes:
Present a full or partial recital
State Solo and Ensemble Contest
Prepare and perform a solo from your instrument’s standard repertoire
Marching Band Participation (credit awarded 1st and 2nd)
Take Private Lessons
Accompanist for section or solo
Participate in school musical
Winter sports pep band (credit awarded 2nd and 3rd Quarters)
Participate in an Honor Band or Orchestra
Regular participation in community/church music ensemble
Develop a performance skill(s) (Additional to curricular requirements)
TAP Master Rhythm series
Approved television, video programs with report
Approved live concerts and report
Analyze recorded music
Attend college or professional rehearsals and report
Additional Listening opportunities other than required festival listening
Listening Log (four hours of music) that includes: Title, Composer, Length, characteristics
Composition or arrangement
Report on a composer or any music related subject
Lecture/demonstration on selected, approved topic with research documentation
Analyze a movement or full piece of music
Annotated bibliography of sources in general music or on a specific music topic

Approved Theory lessons
Section Leader/student director
Student Staff Service Position
Teach private lessons
Write publicity articles or press releases
