Curricular Ensembles

(Classes meet all year for 1.0 Fine Art credit)

JAZZ BAND

ENROLLMENT:

Wind, Percussion, Piano, and String players by Audition.
Auditions will be held in class during week 2 of the school year.

INSTRUCTION
Focus:

Performance and development of “Jazz” styles from multiple periods.  Focus is placed on the development of improvisation skills.

 

CLASS MEETS:

Daily at 6:35 a.m. and “after-school-hours” rehearsals/events.

 

PERFORMANCE Expectations:

3 concerts, 2 festivals and/or trips, additional performances are possible.  See schedule below:

 

COSTS:

$160.00

 

STRING ENSEMBLE

ENROLLMENT:

Open to all stringed instrument performers (violin, viola, cello, bass)

 

INSTRUCTION
Focus:

Performance, development of string performance skills, and string orchestra literature from multiple time periods.

 

CLASS MEETS:

Daily.  Some “after class” rehearsals required.  Some of you will be invited to attend special Tuesday evening rehearsals 7:00-8:30 p.m. with  the String Specialist.

 

PERFORMANCE Expectations:

4-5 Concerts, 2 local festivals, 2 festival trips, additional school performances.
Solo and Ensemble Festival is HIGHLY encouraged
SPECIAL this year!  A “Spring Performance Trip” opportunity for ALL participants.  Details to be announced later.

 

COSTS:

$250.00-$275.00 (including Spring trip)

 

SYMPHONIC BAND

ENROLLMENT:

All wind and percussion performers

INSTRUCTION
Focus:

Performance and development of ensemble and individual performance skills, using standard grade II-IV band literature

 

CLASS MEETS:

Daily with “out-of-class” rehearsals and performances required.

 

PERFORMANCE Expectations:

  • 4 concerts, 4 Pep Band Events, 1-2 local festivals.
  • Solo and Ensemble Festival and Marching Band is highly encouraged
  • SPECIAL this year!  A “Spring Performance Trip” opportunity for ALL participants.  Details to be announced later.

COSTS:

No anticipated out-of pocket expenses for local festivals and Clinics.  All local festival fees and transportation are covered through district funds.  HOWEVER; The Spring performance tour will cost approximately $200.00. Fund raising participation is expected and encouraged. 

 

WIND ENSEMBLE

ENROLLMENT:

Wind and percussion musicians (by audition and director approval).

INSTRUCTION Focus:

Performance, development of advanced ensemble and individual performance skills, Grade III-V Band literature from standard repertoire, new compositions.

 

CLASS MEETS:

Daily with “after class” rehearsals required.  Including weekly sectionals.

 

PERFORMANCE Expectations:

  • 4-5 concerts, 2 trips, 1-2 local festivals, 4 Pep Band events,
  • Additional school performances
  • Solo and Ensemble Festival is HIGHLY encouraged
  • SPECIAL this year! A “Spring Performance Trip” opportunity for ALL participants. Details to be announced later.

COSTS:

$250.00 - $275.00 (Includes Spring Trip)

 

Solo and Ensemble

ENROLLMENT:

All students enrolled in curricular ensembles are encouraged to participate in a small ensemble or solo performance at the regional CBMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival March 15, 2008

 

INSTRUCTION
Focus:

Small group and individual performance skill development, Music literature for small group and/or solo performance

 

CLASS MEETS:

45 minute rehearsals, once a week from November through February; Exact day and time to be determined by group/individual and director.

 

PERFORMANCE Expectations:

District Solo and Ensemble Festival (February 4, 2006), Class performance, family performance, and/or concert appearance.

 

COSTS:

No out-of-pocket expenses.  Participation costs have been included in curricular ensemble participation costs.
