Meet your counselor

Mr. Jones

Mr. Phil Jones is the Counselor for the foreign exchange students at Kamiakin High School.  Mr. Jones has been at Kamiakin since 1994.  Mr. Jones has a Master’s degree from Washington State University in counseling.  He was voted Vocational Counselor of the Year in Washington State in 1997.

Mr. Jones has had experience is many settings and occupations in and out of the “school business” including mental health counselor (with homeless mentally ill) and restaurant operator and he has lived in 7 different states including Utah, Oregon, Washington and California.  He enjoys watching the new foreign exchange students become “Americanized” and adapt to their new surroundings as well as sharing information about their home countries.

In addition, Mr. Jones is the pitching and infielder’s coach for Kamiakin’s varsity baseball team.  As a player, in his younger days, Mr. Jones was drafted three times in the Major League Baseball drafts, twice by the San Francisco Giants and once by the Philadelphia Phillies.   He began coaching baseball in the late 70’s at Hanford High School in Richland following his pro career.  He also coached youth baseball in Taylorsville Utah.  Mr. Jones and Head-Coach Rex Easley coached the Kennewick Dusters for two seasons finishing second in the United States in 1999 second in Washington State in 2000. 

In his spare time (and during the summers), Mr. Jones enjoys golf, fishing the Columbia River on his fishing boat and traveling.  Someday, Mr. Jones wants to travel to Europe and see some of his former foreign exchange students.
