Fall 2009

Principal’s message

Our two major initiatives this year in curriculum are the adoption district-wide of Math Connects, and at Edison the fine-tuning of our reading remediation efforts. The district last year moved to district-wide curriculum adoptions and away from building-by-building decisions.  As a district we will be reviewing and making recommendations on science programs for next year.

Last spring I received an award that reflects well on the staff, students, and parents at Edison. As a nominee for Washington State Principal of the Year I was evaluated in a number of areas. A team visited Edison and was impressed with the community feeling exibited across our school and the way we work as a team. I am proud of the strong relationships we have established with our parents as full partners in the education of children. From top to bottom we are committed to making each student's learning a priority and it is only through strong connections with parents that we are able to accomplish this goal.

In October my wife and I will travel to our nation’s capital to receive my formal recognition as Washington State Principal of the Year. I will be in a tuxedo, which will feel a bit awkward, but I will be carrying with me the hearts and minds of the students, staff, and parents without whom this would not be possible. It is a great honor to represent Edison Elementary in recognition of the fine work we have done as a team.

Sincerely,

Bruce Cannard

Principal
