Southridge High Schoo Boys Soccer Coaches

Coach's Bio

Coach Elfering is in his Sixth year coaching the Southridge High School boys, and fifth  year as the Varsity team Head Coach. When Coach Elfering took over the boys soccer program at Southridge he inherited a program that won only 3 games in the last three years prior, and had never had a winning season. Southridge had 22 athletes playing soccer, and they were being scored on an average of 6 to 7 goals a game to none scored for.  A few seasons ago marked the turning point for Southridge soccer, having 46 athletes turn out, almost making it to districts, and cutting the goals against average to less than two goals a game.  They also had only 22 goals scored against them in 14 games, which compared to 58 goals against per season the previous years, before he arrived; only losing to eventual 4A state champions Pasco 2-1 on a penalty kick in the last five minutes.

Since then the boys have had their first winning season in Southridge history and made it to the regional playoffs. They have had nothing but winning seasons since then. Only having 14 goals scored on them during the entire season (15 games), their goals against average was less than 1 goal a game. The team also set a record of 8 shutouts in a season.

Coach Elfering is a Seventh Grade teacher at Ochoa Middle School and is pursuing his M.A. in Educational Administration.   He is married to Sara, son Caleb age 5, Drayson 18 months old and expecting their daughter in May.

Riley

Riley is in his fifth year of coaching for Southridge High School, and 3rd as the Head Varsity Assistant Coach.

Before becoming the Varsity Assistant he was the J.V. Head Coach, guiding the team to two consecutive winning seasons.  Helping shape the program to where it is today.

Currently Riley is with the varsity team and trains the goalies as well as assists in every detail of the program.  Riley also created the teams blog rising sun soccer, and is the person in charge of the boys soccer league stats for the CBBN.

Assistant Coach Riley Dodson coached his first year at the club level and his Three Rivers U14 girls team finished undefeated at 8-0-2 and won the league title. The "Rage" led the league in scoring with 35 goals, had the best goal differential (+30) while only conceding 5 goals all year. Riley is married to Sarah, and they have four children; daughter Kendle (7), son Morgan (2) and twin sons Kale and Cooper that were just born in November.

Johnny Trevino is in his second year as a part of the coaching staff.  He is coming off of a year which once again saw the J.V. boys post a winning record.  Johnny is looking to post another stellar year, and has really added a great source of information to the program.  Johnny is married to Julie and they have two daughters, Lexi (2) and the new arrival of Danielle.
