Expository
Speaking
1. The purpose of expository speech is to describe, explain or define an
object, idea, concept, or social institution.
2. The responsibility for choosing a worth while topic rests with the contestant.
The use of humor will not be penalized.
3. The speech must be in the original work of the speaker. No more than
150 words of quoted material and or paraphrased material may be included.
4. The speech must be delivered extemporaneously, with or with out the use
of notes.
5. The contestant will not be penalized for the use of notes or visual aids,
unless hey interfere with the ability of the speaker to communicate with
the audience.
6. Time limit: Maximum of 8 minutes. If the speaker goes over a 30 second
grace period that contestant may not be awarded first place in that round.
