Sports Medicine is divided into three different classes at Southridge.

The first option a student can take is Introduction to Sports Medicine. Here students develop the fundamental knowledge to better understand the human body and the way it works. This class is designed to give students first hand knowledge about the field of medicine and possible careers that one can explore in the future. Many students who are interested in the field of Medicine take this class as a preparatory class for further education. Topics we cover in this class include, Anatomy, Medical Terminology, Drugs and Sports Performance, just to name a couple.

The second class students can take is Advanced Sports Medicine. To enroll in this class a student must pass the Introduction to Sports Medicine and have Instructor approval. In Advanced Sports Medicine, we continue looking at different aspects of Sports Medicine. Different sections include, Sport Law and Liability, Nutrition, Massage and Rehabilitation.

The final section a student can take in conjunction with either class is the Clinical Observation or 7th Hour program. Here students enroll in a class which allows them to take the knowledge they have obtained in the classroom and apply in a practical and supervised setting. Students normally work under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer here at Southridge, but do have an opportunity to go out into the community and work in different clinical settings. Past experiences have primarily included Physical Therapy clinics, but are not limited to that.
