Daily and timely attendance is vital to learning and succeeding. The following information combines my policies with the most current administrative policies of Southridge HS.

Tardies: Students are expected to be in their seats when the bell stops ringing. Students on their feet or in the wrong seat will be marked tardy.  The accumulation of 5 tardies in a quarter will result in a truancy.  5th hour students who are repeatedly tardy will lose the privilege of leaving campus for lunch.

Emergency (Excused) Absences: Students will have one day for each day they are absent for illness or family emergency to make up missed work. After that, work will be considered late.

Non-emergency (Excused) Absences: Students are not to use class time for personal business.  This includes, but is not limited to, paying fines or fees, working on assignments for other classes, or non-emergency appointments.  Students who miss for these reasons will have no additional time to complete assignments; any assignments not handed in prior to the absence will be considered late.

Unexcused Absences: Students whose absence is unexcused may not be able to make up missed work.  This will be considered on a case by case basis.

Truancy: Students who are not where they are supposed to be during class time will be marked truant and placed on an attendance contract by the office.  Example: student asks to use the restroom, then goes to locker without notifying the teacher.  Remember: if you disappear, you were never here!

Pre-excused Absences: Students who know ahead of time that they will miss class are expected to pick up their assignments before being absent. In most cases they are also expected to turn assignments in before being absent as well. Please contact me if your student is going to be gone and you have questions about this policy.

Suspensions: In the unlikely event a student is suspended from class for three or more days, the student's parents are responsible for obtaining work through the attendance office.  All work not handed in immediately upon the student's return will be considered late.
