SOUTHRIDGE  BASKETBALL

PLAYER EXPECTATIONS

Off the floor

  1. Take an active role in your classes.  Sit up front in the classroom and participate in your education.  Your academic priorities should be paramount for you, your parents, and all your coaches.  We build our basketball program around individuals that want to be successful in the classroom.
  2. Develop people skills.  Communicate, communicate, and communicate!  Always be positive and encourage others.
  3. Develop friendships.  Whether you play basketball 1 year or 4 years, you’ll make lifetime friends.  If you want to have more friends, be better to more people.
  4. Set goals and work to achieve them.  Goal setting is a life-long necessity.  Individual and team goals are a major part of our basketball program.  Focus on being the best.
  5. Success is not a part-time job!  Continuously work at your game and physical conditioning. Never take your position for granted.  Improve your skills to help your team improve.  Be dedicated and loyal-to yourself, your coaches and your teammates.
  6. Be competitive!  Never back down from a challenge!  Compete in the classroom, with your opponents and with-not against-your teammates.  More importantly, compete with yourself.
  7. Worry about things we can control.  Don’t dwell on things that can’t be changed.  Live your life understanding not to waste a minute fretting over things that we can’t control. Recognize it, admit it, learn from it, and then forget it!
  8. Take responsibility for something.  Do it as well as you possibly can, and then accept the outcome.  If you do your absolute best, you won’t have to second-guess yourself, no matter what the outcome.
  9. Develop balance in your life.  Basketball is just one part of a great opportunity that we provide for students.  We want them to explore every opportunity and make their high school experience the very best it can be.  Get involved in other activities!

On the floor

  1. Stand up for teammates.  When a teammate comes of the floor, the entire bench, including coaches and players greet him.  His effort was on behalf of us, and he deserves the thanks of his teammates.
  2. Play like Champions.  Regardless of the outcome play every minute as it were you’re last.  Stay composed when things aren’t going our way and never quit!  Control what we can control, never let opposing players, fans, and officials take us out of our game.  Discipline yourself in both conduct and appearance, on the court and off, so that we are a credit to those we represent (Southridge, our teammates, our coaches, our family, and our community).
  3. Punctuality.  Always be 10 minutes early to meetings, practice, bus times, and team functions.  Tardiness is the height of arrogance.  In effect, your saying, “My time is more important than yours.”  Being on time is considerate of others.
  4. Conditioning.  We want to be the best conditioned team in the league.  Sprint off the floor on time-outs, being substituted, and when we leave the game for halftime.  Every where we go we sprint!

(FAILURE TO ABIDE BY OR FOLLOW THESE RULES WILL RESULT IN CONSEQUENCES WHICH WILL BE BASED ON THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE OFFENSE)

LIFES VALUES: LOYALTY, IMPORTANCE OF TEAM WORK, AND OUR OBLIGATION TO FOLLOW THROUGH ON OUR RESPONSIBILITIES!!

REGARDLESS OF OUTCOMES, WE PLAY LIKE FEARLESS, COURAGEOUS CHAMPIONS!
