LC had a 13-8 shot advantage and more of the possession.  SR played fought hard to get back into the game after falling a goal down.  Extremely solid effort coming back from a back to back games and playing so many young and inexperience players due to injuries.  Coach Sambrano is very proud of the effort of each girl on the squad.

Varsity: SHS 4, Pasco 0
Huge win as SHS beats the conference favorite. The Suns were led in goal by Courtney Hancock who notched her 2nd shutout of the season. The match included strong performances on defense by Laquilla Upton, Meghan Sorensen, Kari Merrell, Kasey McNeill and Ellen Jansen. Further, Heather Johnson and Ellen Jansen were strong offensively and Paige Sorensen, Jordan Benecke and Rhiannon Downs provided a big spark of the bench.

Suns showed tremendous character in coming from behind in the last 15 mintes to beat Eisenhower 2-1. Strong performace by Laquilla Upton, Courtney Hancock, Jansen and Kasey McNeill.

The Suns dominated Sunnyside by scoring 3 goals in the first 14 minutes on they way to a 8-0 rout. They were led by Kasey McNeill with the hat trick and two assists, Jenna Wallace with 2 goals, Catherine Tsoukalas with a goal and two assists and Ellen Jansen with two goals.

Junior Varsity: SHS 0, Richland 1 (in a shoot out)

Varsity: SHS 2, Richland 1 (in a shoot out 3-2)

The Suns won a hard fought and extremely physical game 2-1 in a shoot out.  It is believed that this is the first league win over Richland in the history of the Southridge soccer program.

Moses Lake

Junior Varsity: SHS 0, Moses Lake 1

Varsity: SHS 1, Moses Lake 0

The Suns girls soccer team traveled to Moses Lake and came away with a 1-0 win. Southridge outshot the Moses Lake 24-5. Ellen Jansen scored a goal in the 6th minute off an assist from Kasey McNeill. Laquilla Upton and Meghan Sorensen played extremely well defensively and Courtney Hancock as again very solid in goal.

The Suns suffered their first league defeat losing 2-1 to Eastmont.  The girls were lead by solid peformances from Courtney Hancock and Ellen Jansen.

The Suns were led by Kasey McNeill with two goals and two assists and Heather Johnson with 2 goals and 1 assist in the 7-0 win.  A couple other Freshman also scored their first goals of the season in Brooke Benecke and Randi Andreatta.  Chelsie Dixon had a strong defensive game in her first start with the varsity team.

The Suns played well dominating the entire game and with Kasey McNeill scoring 2 first half goals.  Southridge dominated possession and scoring opportunities in route to winning their 7th conference game and remaining tied for first place with Pasco and Kamiakin at 7-1.

The Suns got off to a fast start putting up 6 goals in the first half on their way toa 9-0 win over Kennewick. The Suns were led by Heather Johnson with 4 goals and Kasey McNeill with 4 assists.  All 19 players played extensive time and allcontributed to a great team win.

The Suns scored two goals in the first half and relied on a strong defensive performance in shutting out Hanford 2-0. Southridge did not allow a shot on goal and recorded its 9th shutout of the season and is now 9-1 in league and 11-2 overall. Next up for he Suns is Kamiakin.

The girls beat cross town rivals Kamiakin 2-1 on a late goal by Kasey McNeill.  The win puts Southridge in the drivers seat to the District Championship.  If the girls can win the next two games, they will secure a birth into the District Championship game and a chance for their first District Championship in school history.

West Valley

Junior Varsity: SHS 1, West Valley 0

Varsity: SHS 2, West Valley 1 (in overtime)

The Suns fell behind early on a questionable penalty kick call in the 23rd minute but rebounded to win a hard fought 2-1 OT victory at West Valley  The win secured the first league title in Southridge High School history.Freshman Katherie Tsoukalas tied the game at 1 in the 64th minute and the Suns kept the pressure on the entire second half dominating in both possession and shots. Ellen Jansen finished off the Rams, scoring on a penalty kick in the 4th minute of sudden death overtime. Southridge finished league play with 12 wins and 1 loss and has a final record of 14 wins and 2 losses.

Pasco

Varsity: SHS 0, Pasco 1 (in a shootout)

Southridge and Pasco battled to a scoreless 0 -0 tie after 80 minutes of regulation and an extra 10 minutes of overtime. Southridge lost 4-2 in PK's and will now host Kamiakin for #2 regional seed and a home game this coming Saturday.  The Suns were led defensively by Kari Merrell and Chelsie Dixon (both played outstanding) and offensively by Heather Johnson an Jordan Benecke (both created several problems for the Pasco defense).

Varsity: SHS 1, Kamiakin 2

The Suns took on Kamiakin and played in a windstorm and unfortunately fell 2-1 to the Braves in a game that decided the #2 and #3 seeds to Regionals. The girls still qualified for regionals and will take on Mead in Spokane. The Suns were led offensively by Kasey McNeill who scored her 19th goal of the season. Laquilla Upton led the Suns defense.

Mead

Varsity: SHS 1, Mead 2

The Suns lost a hard fought regional playoff game in the closing minutes with Mead at Joe Albi Stadium. The girlsplayed an outstanding game andthe entire team gavea great effort and left it all on the field.Coach Sambrano states, “Ithasbeena privilege to coach this group of kids, they are truly a special team and they have set the bar high for next season.” The Suns end their season with 14 wins and 5 losses and were ranked as high as #6 in the state at one point during the season. The girls also won their first League Championship and put 5 players on the all-league first team (Courtney Hancock - GK, Laquilla Upton and Kari Merrell - Defenders, Ellen Jansen - Midfield, Kasey McNeill Unanimous Forward) and 2 players on all-league second team (Heather Johnson - Forward and Jenna Wallace - Midfield). In addition, Kasey McNeill was selected Big 9 Player of the year. All of the recognition the Suns received this year could not be possible without the success of the entire team and coach Sambrano knows that all of the players that received recognition would like to thank their teammates as this is a team game and every success we had this year was a direct result of the entire team.
