Student Dress Expectations
Southridge's student dress
expecations are established to eliminate disruptions to the educational
process caused by individual attire. These expecations are also designed
to enhance school-to-work transitional skills and behaviors.
These expecations are as follows:
-
No personalized messages
or nicknames on clothing.
- No clothing which advertises alcohol,
tobacco, or drugs or which expresses or suggests lewd, sexual, discriminatory,
or harassment messages.
- No clothing which bares the midriff (i.e.,
halters, half-shirts, tank shirts, etc.) or exposes any portion of the
anatomy or undergarments in a manner which disrupts the educational
process or is offensive.
- No headgear in the form of hats, caps,
scarves, bandanas will be worn in the building.
- No bare shoulders (strapless), bareback
tops, halter style tops, spaghetti straps, or single shoulder tops allowed
at school.
- Shorts and skirts (including skorts) need
to be reasonable in length (mid-thigh), must be presentable, and will
be subject to administrative approval.
- Clothing is to fit the individual; sagging
pants or extremely oversized clothing is not to be worn. Pants must
be worn at the waistline. Undergarments (i.e., bra straps and undershorts)
must be covered.
- Pagers and cell phones are not to be used
during the day. Disturbances caused by these devices will result in
confiscation.
- The school administration/staff will determine
wheter garments are disruptive to the educational process, including
graments not listed in the current dress expecations.
Violation of the student dress expectations
will result in the student being immediately sent home to change into
appropriate attire for school or requiring a parent or guardian to bring
appropriate attire for the student.
Due to the gang influences in the community,
it is necessary to restrict the outward affirmations of gang affiliation.
Additional restrictions may be added on occasion after consultation with
local law enforcement agencies.
Students will not be permitted to wear the
following:
-
All black clothing (head
to toe).
- Clothing with logos recognized as gang-related
by local school and/or police officials.
- Trench coats or other exessively baggy
outerwear.
- Headmands, hair nets, bandannas (do-rags),
colored shoelaces, and hanging belts.
- Coveralls which are not completely fastened.
- Groups of individuals dressed in identical
clothes (excluding school teams and ASB-sponsored groups).
- C lothing with old english lettering that
is identified to be gang-related. Examples could include "In Memory
of ...", "Smile Now, Cry Later", "Homies",
etc.
- Chains attatched to clothing and rings
with more than one finger hole.
- Any gang-related tattoo, permanent or
temporary, must be covered.
These restrictions are designed to safeguard
our students. Parent cooperation is greatly appreciated. |
