We want your feedback on elementary school boundary changes
Kennewick School District is seeking community feedback on proposed elementary school boundary changes that will take effect in the 2018-19 school year.
The district will hold four public meetings to provide district residents with an overview of proposed elementary boundary options and the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback.
Meetings will be held at 7 p.m.
- October 3 – Ridge View Elementary
- October 10 – Cottonwood Elementary
- October 12 – Hawthorne Elementary
- October 16 – Lincoln Elementary
The schools that will be primarily impacted by boundary changes are: Cottonwood, Edison, Hawthorne, Lincoln, Ridge View, Sunset View, and Vista elementary schools.
The district will open two new elementary schools in August 2018 and is adjusting boundaries to help alleviate overcrowding at neighboring schools.
The Kennewick school board has directed the administration to prioritize creating neighborhood schools when drawing up boundary options.
The school board will receive a report about the proposed boundary changes and feedback from community meetings at the October 25 meeting. The board is expected to approve new elementary boundaries at the November 8 meeting.
All middle and high school boundaries will remain the same.
Students who live outside of a school’s boundaries may apply for in-district transfer until January 26. Notifications on decisions about transfer requests are mailed out on February 23.
