Replacement Educational
Programs & Operations Levy

Election Update (April 29 at 9 a.m.)

Updated election results for April 28 from Benton County Elections indicate that the Replacement Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy is failing with 51.23% (8,141) no votes and 48.77% (7,750) yes votes. A total of 15,891 votes have been counted.

The next ballot count is expected May 5 and we will send out an update at that time.

Based on these results, it is unlikely the district will gain the necessary votes to reach the 50% voter approval needed to pass the levy. The next time the district could run the EP&O levy again is February 2023.

In the coming weeks, the district will be working closely with the school board to identify budget reductions for the 2022-23 school year. The district will work hard to develop a plan that is both fiscally responsible and mindful of the impacts on students and staff. When specific information is available, we will share details with our staff and community.

We’re Listening

When Kennewick School District's proposed Replacement Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy on Feb. 8 did not pass, we surveyed our community to learn why. We learned there were a variety of concerns, including the levy amount and tax rate, state health and safety mandates, transparency of how levy funds are used, and district and school board engagement with community stakeholders. We also heard that some community members had no concerns.

Because EP&O levy funding is crucial to our schools, we are running the levy again on April 26. You will notice that we have made some changes to the EP&O Levy ballot measure and the information that is shared, based on what we heard from our community.

You have our gratitude

We want to thank our voters for supporting the Technology Levy on Feb. 8 with a 52% approval rate. It ensures that our students will continue to have one-to-one access to technology devices, support and service through 2026.
