Luis Salgado - Kamiakin High School
Luis Salgado is the definition of hardworking.
The Kamiakin High School senior hits the books and the playing field with equal commitment and dedication, and as a result he's excelled in multiple ways during his high school career. He's a valedictorian, he's a student leader and he's an accomplished athlete who's headed to Whitworth University to play football.
Luis says a lot of credit goes to his parents, Kristina and Jorge.
"That hard-working spirit comes from my mom and my dad. They always taught me, whatever you do, try to be the best at it or do it to the best of your ability," he said.
Luis also credits his twin brother, Angel, and his younger sister, Mia, with motivating and inspiring him. Angel is graduating from Kamiakin this week, too.
At Whitworth, Luis is thinking about pursuing computer science, engineering or criminology – he hasn't decided yet. Whatever he picks, he'll give it his all.
"Hard work has been an integral part of my life because without hard work I wouldn’t be the person I am today," he said. "You know, life is hard when you’re lazy and life is hard when you work hard. I choose the more disciplined route, which is to work hard every day, no matter what you feel like or what you feel like you deserve. Always overachieve, always go above and beyond."
