As a district, we value the involvement of our families in the education of our students. We also recognize that our community is diverse and we respect and value that diversity. It is important in the scheduling of major school-wide events that we are cognizant of important religious holidays and significant cultural events.
To ensure that portions of our community are not excluded, schools should avoid scheduling school-wide events, meetings or performances on the religious holidays below whenever possible.
To also ensure the broadest levels of participation in other activities, such as group sports, activities or meetings, schools should be cognizant of the students who will be participating and schedule these events accordingly. If events are scheduled on any of the following holidays, students should not be penalized for missing activities if their absence is for the purpose of participating in a religious or cultural activity.
Please pay attention to the time of sunset for religious holidays that begin at sunset (indicated with *). Events on those days may be scheduled if the ending time allows families to travel home before sunset.
