Family Engagement Teams

Kennewick School District works to build strong partnerships among schools, families and the community. Each school has a Family Engagement Team that develops a one-year family engagement plan connected to the school’s improvement goals. These plans identify ways families and community members can support student learning, academic achievement and a positive school experience.

Teams use several strategies to make their work inclusive and responsive:

  • Parent representatives: Parents and guardians help shape activities and ensure family perspectives are included in decisions.

  • Community partnerships: Teams work with community members and organizations to connect schools and families with resources that support student learning.

  • Family surveys: Surveys help teams understand families’ needs, priorities and experiences.

  • Event evaluations: After family engagement events, teams gather feedback to determine what worked and how future activities can be improved.

The feedback teams receive helps schools adjust their plans throughout the year and provide engagement opportunities that are useful, accessible and connected to student success.

This approach is based on the National Network of Partnership Schools model from Johns Hopkins University and supports federal Title I family engagement requirements.

FAQS

  •  In Kennewick School District, we empower our Family Engagement Teams to carry out the parent involvement requirements of Title 1 as set forth by the No Child Left Behind Act. Each team creates a one year plan that links parent engagement practices to school improvement goals. Teams seek parent input in decision making through parent representatives on the team, family surveys and evaluations after events. These are examples of best practices that all teams, regardless of whether they are Title 1 or not, work toward.
