About Superintendent Hansen

Mr. Lance Hansen began serving as Kennewick School District’s Superintendent on July 1, 2025.

He was selected by the Board of Directors following an extensive search process that included community surveys, focus groups, and engagement opportunities with staff, students, families, and community members.

Mr. Hansen is committed to fostering strong relationships with students, families, staff, and the broader community. He believes in creating a positive, student-centered culture where all learners are supported and challenged to succeed. During the selection process, he expressed his excitement to partner with the Kennewick community to continue strengthening the district’s schools and programs.

Prior to coming to Kennewick, Mr. Hansen served as superintendent of the Lewiston Independent School District in Lewiston, Idaho, for four years. He spent a total of 18 years in the Lewiston district, also serving as assistant superintendent, high school principal, assistant principal, and middle school assistant principal.

Mr. Hansen began his career in education as a math teacher at Moscow High School in Moscow, Idaho, and as a Spanish and math teacher at Emmett High School in Emmett, Idaho.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Idaho, where he majored in Spanish and minored in math. He also earned a master’s degree and educational specialist degree in educational leadership.

Mr. Hansen was recently named Idaho’s 2025 Superintendent of the Year by the Idaho Association of School Administrators. He serves as board president for the Idaho Digital Learning Alliance and has been actively involved with the Rotary Club of Lewiston, Twin County United Way, and the Lewis Clark Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Hansen and his wife, Dawn, have five grown children and five grandchildren, and they look forward to making Kennewick their new home. He’s already taken an active role in leadership and is enjoying meeting staff, students and community members.

Superintendent's Student Advisory Council

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council includes student representatives from all Kennewick School District high schools. The group meets monthly with the superintendent and other district leaders, providing the opportunity for district leaders to hear directly from the students they serve. Both district leaders and student members bring topics for discussion. Student members provide input and feedback, share ideas and perspectives and ask questions.
