KEEPING OUR FACILITIES CLEAN AND SAFE
Our crew in the Facility Services Department are often found behind the scenes working hard to ensure a safe, clean and effective learning and working environment for students, teachers and staff.
With over 130 employees — including custodians and maintenance and grounds crew members — the facilities team maintains the district’s schools, buildings and grounds — doing everything from classroom cleanup, to repairs, to snow removal.

Lead in Drinking Water Action Plan
Kennewick School District is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff. As part of our proactive health and safety program, and in compliance with state law, we conduct regular testing of drinking water outlets for lead.
Lead is a toxic metal that is harmful when ingested, particularly for children under six, who are more susceptible to its effects on growth and development. While lead-based paint is the most common cause of lead poisoning, we test water to ensure we are not contributing to a child's total lead exposure.
Latest Test Results
In accordance with our testing plan, we tested 1,095 water fixtures (fountains, sinks, kitchen taps) throughout the Fall and Winter of 2026
- Results: 38 outlets showed lead levels above 5 parts per billion (ppb).
- All other locations tested below the action level.
- You can view the full, detailed results of our testing on our website here: www.ksd.org
Actions Taken (Remediation)
If any outlet showed elevated lead, we immediately took the following actions:
- Fixtures with results 15 ppb and above were immediately taken out of service
- Fixtures with results above 5 ppb remained in service, but were identified for replacement
- All fixtures with elevated levels were replaced, capped off, or had filters installed
We will continue to conduct regular testing in accordance with the Department of Health Lead in School Drinking Water Program to ensure our water remains safe.
Kennewick School District maintains a Lead in School Drinking Water Action Plan that outlines the steps we take to reduce lead concentrations in drinking water.
